Renaming ceremonies

There is an old proverb that says ‘The beginning of wisdom is to call things by their right names’. But what if you have lived your life with the wrong name, or perhaps a name you felt restricted you to a life that wasn’t yours? Changing your name can be one of the most important steps for a transgender or gender non-conforming person to take and if they choose to to celebrate with those who have supported them on their journey.

Like all the ceremonies I write, your renaming ceremony will be written with you at the heart of it. We will talk about readings, music and elements to make sure this ceremony tells your story as you want it to be told. You can also include religious elements if this is an important part of your life.

Everyone's trans journey is unique to them, and so just like you the ceremony will be unlike any other reflecting your individuality.

"I think that positivity— real positivity— is like the butterflies. The whole essence of the butterfly: caterpillar, cocoon, winged creature. When I look at a butterfly, I not only see a winged beauty, but I also see a strong beauty! A mind that decided: "I'm going to become better, I'm not going to be afraid of the dark, I'm going to roll myself up in this thing that I am and I will come out winged and colourful."  - C. Joybell.
