Readings and poetry

I love poetry. I always have. I stood up in school when I was about 8 and recited a poem called The Witch (I can still remember half of it..) and I've been hooked ever since. You absolutely don't have to have a poem or reading but they do tend to break up a ceremony. I never just throw out poems, until I've spoken to the family or couple and found out what means something to them.

And you don't need to be led by your celebrant if you don't want to be. I've been introduced to amazing poets like Richard Felix, thanks to families bringing his work to me. You don't even have to have 'funeral poetry'. I've read 'Desiderata' and 'What Is This Life if full of care' at funerals and you know what...for me...that's amazing.
